Venue Name: Beaufort by-the-Sea's 300th Anniversary Celebration
Description
Beaufort-by-the-Sea, the third oldest town in North Carolina and the twelfth oldest in the nation, will be celebrating its landmark 300th anniversary in 2009. Scheduled to be celebrated throughout the year, the main events will be held every weekend in September. With a different theme featured for each of the four weeks, the festivities are slated to be a “Homecoming” for natives of the town, for those who have strayed from its beautiful shores, and for folks who may discover it for the first time. People from all corners of the world (the Town most recently received an inquiry regarding the anniversary from England) will be invited to revel in the glory of Beaufort’s history and heritage, so much of which has been proudly preserved and protected by its citizens. The town boasts of an extraordinary number of volunteer organizations that are anxious to welcome visitors to celebrate its many historic families, limitless arts, maritime culture, dining specialties, and so on. Beaufort wishes to promote her unique and priceless commodity - timelessness - to tourists who wish to return and celebrate its nostalgia, or to feast their eyes on its wonders for the first time. Young, old, near & far, this 300th anniversary celebration will become a part of Beaufort’s historical timeline forever. Beaufort-by-the-Sea’s 300th Anniversary Celebration will provide a one-of-a-kind tourism event that will entice visitors to come and experience much more than the usual summer beach vacation. Held during the “shoulder season” in September, the event will give tourists four weekends to choose from, or invite them to get lost in the whole month. This will provide a reason for folks to stay in local inns and B&B’s not for one, but for every weekend in September. The Board of Directors of this non-profit organization wishes to attract as many people from as many areas as possible to get a chance to show off its famous Southern Hospitality.
